Our Story
Sound Country Radio may be new to Parry Sound,
but the experience behind it is anything but.
Doug Newton—better known to many as Uncle Dee—has been a driving force in online radio for over five years. As the founder of Rider Radio Rocks, Canada’s first online station dedicated to motorcycle enthusiasts, Doug built a loyal audience and achieved remarkable success across Niagara, Hamilton, and Brantford. In fact, within just eight months, RRR was voted Best Radio Station in Niagara. That momentum grew into eight industry awards, including the prestigious Canadian Choice Award for Best Radio Station in 2024 and 2025.
When Doug returned home to Parry Sound earlier this year, he faced an important decision about the future of Rider Radio Rocks. After talking with locals and listening closely to the community, one thing was crystal clear: Parry Sound was ready for a country music station to call its own. And that’s exactly what he’s delivering with Sound Country Radio.
Though streaming online, Sound Country Radio reflects where broadcasting is headed—by 2030, nearly 80% of today’s AM/FM stations are expected to move online. We understand not everyone will make the switch immediately, but innovation means leading with the future in mind while staying true to our listeners.
